Outspoken: Juneteenth - The Commemoration of the End of Slavery. Guest: Jarvis Crawford

Jarvis Crawford is the Community Center Manager for Palm Springs Department of Parks & Recreation, Deacon of the First Baptist Church, and President for the Palm Springs Black History Committee.

As the nation celebrated Juneteenth this year for the first time as a national holiday, Jarvis shares with Joy Silver the important historical information; how it came into being, economic subjugation, and what happened after slavery in Texas. Bringing the discussion to the Coachella Valley, Jarvis talks about the Section 14 story in Palm Springs and the displacement of black families, leading to the creation of the now incorporated north end of the municipality.

This episode is presented through the generous sponsorship of Harcourts Desert Homes in Palm Springs, California.
